With DC’s international reputation as a hub of politics and culture, the natural beauty that exists in the city is often overlooked—and that includes the city’s birdlife.  According to eBird, 330 unique bird species have been recorded in the city, with well over 200 of those species occurring annually.  DC’s geographic location along the Atlantic Flyway makes it a great place to see migrating birds, and the city is also host to many resident species year round. All DCbird tours take place within the city limits of the District of Columbia.

What Participants are Saying

Suzanne P.: “Our DCbird tour was a special memory.”

Phil G.: “In my experience it is surprisingly hard to find a birding guide in the US, so on my occasional visits I usually end up birding on my own. It’s great to know that–in DC at least–I no longer have to figure everything out for myself. Andy is very knowledgeable, hard-working and good company. I’d recommend him to anyone and fully intend to look him up again when I next get a chance to visit DC.”

Sheila M.: “I was visiting from India (where I do birding regularly) and chanced upon Andy’s website while looking for a guided birding tour around DC. I am so happy that I did because the experience of birding with Andy was super! He is an excellent birding guide and what I particularly liked was his meticulous planning (we had a wish list of target birds and a WhatsaApp call prior to the session so that he could get a feel of what we expected) and his complete commitment to us for the entire four hours, ensuring that we got the best possible chances of seeing the birds we wanted to. He is a very pleasant and knowledgeable person and ensured that the trip was enjoyable, he brought along water and snacks and ensured breaks if needed. His appreciation of bird sounds is excellent which made it much easier for us to spot our ‘targets’. I would strongly recommend him to birders who who are new to the area, tourists, or visitors. I got 18 ‘lifers’ despite it being an off-season for birding. Thanks Andy! Looking forward to birding with you again during my next trip to the US!”

Geri S.: “As a novice birder, I really enjoyed Andy’s tour in and around Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Even though it was during a hot and humid time of year when no nesting, mating or migration activity was taking place, we saw dozens of beautiful birds that we wouldn’t have seen without Andy’s finely tuned ear for birdcalls. The very experienced birding friend who I accompanied on this tour was very impressed as well by Andy’s guide skills, which included expert commentary, a deep knowledge of the geographical area, and a keen sense of how much, or how little, to talk during our expedition. I would definitely go birding with him again.”
